William MacGregor

William MacGregor (1846–1919) was a well-known Scottish governor, physician, and colonial administrator. Before accepting colonial assignments in Fiji, British New Guinea, and Lagos, the Scottish-born doctor obtained his medical degree. In addition to being heavily interested in public health and preserving indigenous populations, he was seen as a key player in the development of British New Guinea’s efficient government. MacGregor lowered local tensions and streamlined management. Later, he helped implement public health reforms while serving as Queensland’s governor in Australia. MacGregor’s contributions include his diligent work in medicine and administration, as well as his ability to strike a balance between colonization and local well-being.
