The former Lord of Storm’s End, Robert Baratheon, became king after the successful rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty. Robert is one of the most robust and valorous warriors known to be hot-tempered, bold, and aggressively dangerous. This great warrior was a bosom friend of Eddard Stark. What led him to rebel was only because of the rumor which said that Rhaegar had kidnapped Lyanna Stark, Robert’s betrothed love with whom he had an unreciprocated affection. His was, however, a kingship characterized by disinterest in ruling, heavy drinking, and lavish spending that plunged the kingdom into debt. Personal flaws and lack of political insight eventually set the stage for the instability and turmoil that led to the War of the Five Kings.
