Psychological thriller Possession

Possession is a 1981 psychological thriller by Andrzej Żuławski, part intense drama and part surreal horror. Shot on location in Cold War Berlin, the movie chronicles the disintegration of Anna’s (Isabelle Adjani) and Mark’s (Sam Neill) marriage. It seems Anna is going through with divorce proceedings when Mark discovers evidence that tells him she is unfaithful to him. Unable to function because of his obsessive desire to get an admission from his wife, the film devolves into nightmarish chaos to reveal a terrifying supernatural element. Possession is renowned as much for Adjani’s haunting performance as it is for those visceral visuals. The movie assaults the senses, a real modern exercise in unhinged psychological horrors, not to mention love and madness or discovering your identity.
