Prince Duncan Targaryen, the eldest son of King Aegon V, was nicknamed “Duncan the Small.” He is remembered for his unconventional lifestyle and romantic choices. For example, he famously renounced his claim to the succession for Jenny of Oldstones, an untitled woman whom he fell in love with despite her family’s disapproval. The scandal resulted in strained relations between the Targaryens and influential noble houses who would side more with the royal sense of duty than with love. Even though he relinquished his claim to the throne, the tragic love story lives through the songs of Westeros. He eventually died as part of the burning at Summerhall and in the flames with his father while trying to incubate dragon eggs.
